Cygnus, the Swan, is a cross-shaped constellation in the Northern Hemisphere. This constellation is also known as the Northern Cross. Connect the dots and see if you can imagine a swan with its wings extended. The double star Albireo is the head of the swan. Deneb is at the tail.

The brightest stars in Cygnus are Deneb and Albireo. Deneb is a young, bright, blue supergiant star that is about 60,000 times brighter than the sun and is about 1,500 light years away from Earth.

Throughout history, people have given names to groups of stars in the sky. A constellation is a group of stars that we see in the sky. These stars are not necessarily located together in space, but they look as though they are a group when seen from Earth. See if you can find these stars in the night sky of the Northern Hemisphere.
